When you excessively struggle with anxiety, you know how it can rule you. It takes control of your thoughts, emotions, actions, and life. Your worries will consume you to the point that it takes over your life. You have conversations with friends and family, but your mind isn’t there, it’s on your worries. You go to work, but can’t focus because of your intrusive thoughts. You try to take interest in your hobbies, but they hold no joy, because you are thinking about your worries. This isn’t what God wants for you. And it doesn’t make you less of a Christian to get help for anxiety. If you were having symptoms of a disease, you would go to a doctor to get it checked out. The same should be done for your mind. If you’re having symptoms of a mental illness, then seek a doctor for help. God works through doctors too.

“A cheerful heart is a good medicine; But a broken spirit drieth up the bones.”

Proverbs 17:22

Sometimes we just can’t look at the big picture. Sometimes, it’s just too overwhelming to even think past next month. There are seasons when our anxieties attempt to strangle us. For some, this is a continual battle, for others, it may just be sporadic. God is there either way. I know that sounds nice and Christian-like, something people say when they aren’t going through something rough. Regardless, it is true. It just doesn’t always feel like it. We want our troubles gone instantly, the path clear and free of any obstacles. We want to be able to skip through life with sunny skies and beautiful rainbows. That would be nice and when we are in heaven, I imagine it will be like that. However, God has a purpose for the here and now. He has a job for you to do, he could do it without you, but He wants to use you for your good and those around you. Cry out to God in those times, He hears you and He isn’t surprised by anything you say. Be honest with Him. Tell Him your deepest fears, He already knows them, but He wants you to share them with Him. Praise Him always, through the sunny skies and stormy nights, you can always name your blessings. Don’t forget, to see those beautiful rainbows, you have to have some rain come down.

“that ye may be sons of your Father who is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sendeth rain on the just and the unjust.”

Matthew 5:45

If you have a constant struggle with anxiety, then you know how it can creep in when you’re trying so hard to push it back. You aren’t strong enough to fight Satan and his workers alone. None of us are. But thank God, we don’t have to rely on ourselves. We have the power of the Holy Spirit with us. “The Spirit helps us in our weakness”.

Don’t try to fight your anxiety on your own, seek God for the true peace that is lasting and true. It doesn’t mean you won’t get anxiety, but it does mean that God is always there for you and will be with you. When you feel the anxiety come creeping in or come crashing down on you, don’t run away. Don’t panic. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you, God will get you through it. Do you ever notice how easy it is to let Satan have a foothold in your life with sin, but we fight to let the Lord into our lives? We wrestle with our flesh, our weaknesses, but God doesn’t want you to be broken down. You are His child; we are children of God. Let that sink in, God is Our Father. The maker of all. Remind yourself of that when you feel Satan trying to get in. Remind him who you are and who is with you and in you- “the Great I Am.”

“whom withstand stedfast in your faith, knowing that the same sufferings are accomplished in your brethren who are in the world.”

1 Peter 5:9
