Naturally, training is a hefty job to tackle for anyone. Great leaders are not always great trainers, so a good place to start is with these three steps: explain, show, and watch. Explain—clearly instruct what the task entails. Show—slowly and accurately conduct the task with their undivided attention. Watch—have them complete the task as you instructed. This may be short and sweet, or it may be time-consuming. Regardless, there will not be a question of your expectations or their understanding when you are finished.

The disciple is not above his teacher: but every one when he is perfected shall be as his teacher.

Didn’t you get the memo? How often do we run around in different directions, getting nothing completed? Whether it’s through meetings, emails, or face-to-face, communicate to your team and ensure you understand each other. That email you sent may not seem clear to the one receiving it. That text you sent in all caps may not have been well received. That chicken-scratch note you left on the computer may not even be legible. So take a moment and use an effective form of communication that works best for the entire team.

A fool hath no delight in understanding, But only that his heart may reveal itself.

Plan your work; work your plan! Smartphones, computers, calendars, or even just plain old pen and paper—these are tools to help you plan. So whatever you choose to use, just do it. Have a plan in place for your goals, your week, and especially your day. You will get more accomplished and have less stress. Encourage your employees to do the same. A simple five-minute list each morning will help everyone be more productive, which is always a good thing!

Prepare thy work without, And make it ready for thee in the field; And afterwards build thy house.

Proverbs‬ 24:27‬
